‘Love Is An Arrow’
new single released Monday 14th February 2005 on Rough Trade Records
Tour dates with David Kitt throughout January
Valentines Day 2005 is set to be aptly graced with Aberfeldy’s third single from their critically acclaimed debut record, Young Forever. For what better day to release a song like Love Is An Arrow? Comprising as it does an atmospheric, country-tinged dissertation on the L-word courtesy of an Edinburgh five-piece specialising in bittersweet acoustic pop, like Brian Wilson’s Scottish cousins. It’s the kind of sentiment which could put Cupid out of business.
Aberfeldy, named after a seaside town songwriter and singer Riley Briggs visited in his youth which carries less than happy memories, are made up of folk drawn together from Edinburgh’s vibrant caf scene and bound by their love of song. Their music may be beautifully arranged, but their method of recording is strictly back-to-basics, sharing a single mic between them in the studio to capture the essence of the group as a whole as opposed to five individual parts. The result is a fresh sounding record, as homely and welcoming as a winter broth.

Track /Title Watch/Listen Watch/Listen Download Real player Windows Media - 1.Aberfeldy - Love Is An Arrow - Video Streams -Clocking in with one hundred and eighty seconds of reflective guitar pop, Love Is An Arrow is a pure slice of unadulterated choral perfection. Simple, luxurious melodies and delicately stacked tiers of instrumentation build the song around that oft-overlooked musical device: the fiddle solo. Cue the sound of breaking hearts and the sight of turning heads – their last single Heliopolis won the heart of the NME and Guardian Guide and with it their ‘single of the week’ plaudits. The lead track is backed by two brand new B sides Your Own Trailer and Tom Weir, the latter being a homage to the iconic 80s Scottish TV presenter. Also look out for an ace animated video by the award-winning director Chris Waitt (the man behind BBC’s Monkey Dust).
Fresh from keeping the home fires burning with a headline sell-out mini-tour of Scotland in early December, the band saw the New Year in with the unlikeliest of company. Aberfeldy were joined in their home town by international superstars Scissor Sisters and Blondie at the Edinburgh Hogmany spectacular concert. Through out January they toured with fellow Celtic Rough Trader David Kitt.
For those of stony hearts and short memories, Love Is An Arrow will make the perfect present for your cherished one come February 14 th.
