Adele credits politician Sarah Palin with helping her succeed In America.

The 22-year-old singer appeared on comedy sketch show 'Saturday Night Live' in 2008 on the same night as the former republican vice- presidential candidate made a hotly anticipated appearance and Adele credits the huge viewing figures with helping her find success in America.

She said: "Sarah Palin made my career by coming on that show. I saw the back of Sarah Palin, and I thought it was comedian Tina Fey, and I f**king love Tina Fey, and I was, 'Tina, Tina'. She didn't even acknowledge me, she was just completely oblivious.

"Then Sarah Palin asked to come and meet me, and my friends were in the room, saying, 'If she comes in, I'm leaving'.

"She cornered me and said hello. And I had a massive Obama badge on."

However despite thanking the politician for her help, Adele has no plans to return the favour. When asked if she was worried Sarah had been looking for her endorsement, the 'Rolling in the Deep' hitmaker replied she didn't think musicians and politics mixed.

She told Attitude magazine: "Obviously I've made a few comments here and there in the past, but I don't think musicians should be talking much about politics."

Adele's second album '21' will be released on January 24.
