Adrianne Palicki is to play Wonder Woman in a new pilot TV show.

The relatively unknown US actress has been cast as iconic superhero Lynda Carter in the NBC remake, based on hit 70s series 'Wonder Woman'.

While the 27-year-old beauty has already appeared in a number of minor films, she could now become a household name by starring in the show, which is to be made by studio giants Warner Bros, with 'Ally Mcbeal' writer and producer David E. Kelly penning the episodes.

During a Television Critics Association (TCA) convention last month, when the project was initially on hold, he said: "I had a lot of fun writing it. It's a huge project, and it was probably a bit too much to ask anyone to try to chew on it for next season. But I'm, confident it will still happen. It's a very complicated piece, which is the most fun thing about it."

However, the casting announcement may come as a disappointment to 'Mad Men' actress Christina Hendricks, who admitted last year she would love to play the part.

She said: "I've been wanting to wear that outfit my whole life! I'd love to do it. That would be such fun! Let's put it out there!"
