Soul singer Al Green is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Black Entertainment TV (BET) Hip-Hop Awards.

The US star will pick up the gong when the awards ceremony takes place on June 24th in Los Angeles.

He is famous for songs such as LET'S STAY TOGETHER and LOVE and HAPPINESS.

Other nominations for awards include rapper T-PAIN who appears three times in the best collaboration category.

Stephen Hill, executive vice president of BET, told the BBC: "T-PAIN is everywhere. He's got five nominations, none of them for his own work."

KANYE WEST and Keyshia Cole have both received three nominations while Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys and FLO RIDA all received one each.

QUINCY JONES is due to receive an award for his humanitarian work while LIL WAYNE, Mariah Carey and MARY J BLIGE are set to perform.

BET provides entertainment geared towards young black adults and produces shows such as College Hill, Rap City, Meet The Faith and American Gangster.
