Al Pacino has joined the cast of 'Gotti: Three Generations'.

The legendary actor will star alongside John Travolta, Kelly Preston and troubled actress Lindsey Lohan in the project about the mafia family, directed by Marc Fiore.

Marc confirmed: "We are very pleased to have Al join the extraordinary team that we are assembling to make this movie.

"Pacino will portray Gambino crime family underboss and Gotti associated Neil Dellacroce.

"He is one of the finest actors of all time and will bring an unsurpassed level of reality and excitement to the film."

Neil - who was nicknamed The Tall Guy - was sentences to five years in prison for tax evasion in 1973, and died in 1985 from lung cancer age 75.

He has since been played by two actors in TV movies - Anthony Quinn and Dayton Callie.

It will not be the first time Al has portrayed a mob leader - he is well known for playing Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's 'Godfather' movies.

The 71-year-old star has a number of projects coming up next year, including historical epic 'Leningrad' and 'Hands of Stone' with Jessica Alba.
