Baldwin 'Too Old' To Play Halston
Alec Baldwin's lifelong dream of playing 1970s fashion guru HALSTON on the big screen has been quashed, after producers cast a younger actor. The BEETLE JUICE star, 48, was desperate to play Iowa-born designer ROY HALSTON FROWICK, who died of AIDS-related lung cancer at the age of 57 in 1990. However, gossip site PageSix.com reports studio bosses have cast The Mummy hunk Brendan Fraser, 37, in the forthcoming film adaptation of Halston's 1991 biography SIMPLY HALSTON. Biography author STEVEN GAINES says, "(Baldwin)... Too old? What about too fat? "This movie will do for Brendan Fraser what Capote did for Philip Seymour Hoffman." Baldwin's spokesman says, "Alec is a big fan of Brendan Fraser and wishes him well in the role." Zooey Deschanel is set to play Liza Minnelli in the movie, who was good friend and customer of Halston.
