Alicia Keys, John Legend and Wyclef Jean have been recognised for their philanthropic efforts as part of the nominations for the 2009 MTVu Woodie Awards.
The stars are all in the running for the Good Woodie - the annual prize handed to the celebrity who has had the greatest social impact.
Keys is nominated for her work with the Keep a Child Alive initiative and her efforts to raise AIDS awareness; Legend is hailed for combating poverty in Tanzania with the Show Me Campaign, and Jean is helping the redevelopment of his native Haiti through his Yele Haiti foundation.
Rockers Kings of Leon will battle it out with hip-hop star Drake for the Woodie of the Year accolade, going up against MGMT, rising rapper Asher Roth and the Silversun Pickups.
Green Day, POS and Phoenix are in the running for the Performing Woodie, while newcomers Grizzly Bear, Wale, La Roux and Passion Pitt have landed nominations for the Breaking Woodie.
Nominees for the college network's Best Video Woodie include Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Heads Will Roll), Death Cab for Cutie (Grapevine Fires) and Kid Cudi (Day N Nite), while alternative acts Janelle Monae, Major Lazer and Amanda Blank will compete for the Left Field Woodie.
The sixth annual MTVu Woodie Awards, held to salute acts that are popular on North America's college circuit, will take place on 18 November (09) in New York.
