The remaining members of British rock act Alt-J have promised fans they will continue performing together after bassist Gwil Sainsbury quit the band.

The group, which landed the prestigious Mercury Prize for debut album An Awesome Wave in 2012, announced on Saturday (11Jan14) that founding member Sainsbury had left for personal reasons.

The news sparked concern among fans, so the rockers have released a statement insisting they have no plans to split following Sainsbury's departure.

The message reads, "Both Alt-J and (record label) Infectious would like to reassure fans that the band remain excited about the future and are set to return to the studio very soon to begin work on the follow up to 2012's Barclaycard Mercury Prize winning An Awesome Wave."
