American Idol contestant James Durbin wowed the judges with a powerful rendition of Elton John's 'Your Song' during last night's live show.
American Idol contestants tackled the songs of Elton John during last night's (30th March 2011) live finals, with Californian rocker James Durbin delivering the evening's best performance, reports the Press Association. The 22-year-old literally lit up the stage on the hit reality show, performing accompanied by a flaming piano. Durbin's strong vocal was picked up on by the judges, who were unanimous in their praise for the singer. Jennfer Lopez said that the performance made her "forget" that the show was a competition. Elsewhere, Casey Abrams, who was saved from the elimination last week, impressed with an emotional performance that led judge Steven Tyler to remark, "You sing different every time, and I love that about you because that shows you're a true artist". The 17-year-old high school student Scott Mccreery also gained high praise from the judges, as did Haley Reinhart who closed the show with 'Bennie and the Jets'.
Two of the American Idol finalists will be eliminated on tonight's results show (31st March 2011). Pia Toscano is still regarded as the favourite to win this year's competition.
