American Idol contestant Pia Toscano stole the show on yesterday's rock 'n' roll themed show. The 22-year-old songstress wowed the Idol judges with a powerful rendition of Tina Turner's hit 'River Deep, Mountain High', reports the Press Association.
New Yorker Toscano has received consistently high praise from the American Idol judging and she is regarded as one of the favourites to win this year's contest. After weeks of performing ballads, Pia powered through the rock number to the delight of Aerosmith front-man Steven Tyler, who exclaimed, "Murderer! Murderer! Pia, you killed it!" Elsewhere on the show, an emotional James Durbin earned praise for his sincere performance of George Harrison's 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', with Tyler saying, "It's good to see that not only did your guitar gently weep, but so did you". Jennifer Lopez described Jacob Lusk's version of 'Man in the Mirror' as "perfect" and Haley Reinhart, who was in danger of being eliminated last week, performed a well-received rendition of Janis Joplin's 'Piece of My Heart'.
One of the top nine American Idol finalists will be eliminated during tonight's results show (7th March 2011).
