Heejun Han has come under criticism for being the joker of American Idol with the judges not convinced that he's taking himself or the show seriously enough. Perfect timing then for him to completely catch them unawares and pull out the po-faced performance of his life last night (March 29, 2012) during the latest round, delighting both panel and crowd with a stirring version of Donny Hathaway's 'A Song For You.'

"He-Man, you did it. You did it, man. You turned it around," judge Steven Tyler exclaimed. "When you have a voice as good as yours ... you make it come alive." This was a sharp turnaround indeed from the Aerosmith man - MSN reports that last week he was perhaps the one least impressed with Han's japery. The competition got closer still when two other singers who've not exactly been setting the stage alight managed to turn the judges heads as well, with Deandre Brackensick and Elise Testone both winning high praise. Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips were two others who brought the judges to their feet, Ledet's performance of 'Without You.' by Mariah Carey in particular finding favor.

Indeed such was the quality of performers last night that there was no obvious weak rendition, something the judges cited when refusing to ruminate on who might be in trouble. One of them must go however, but don't ask us who.
