Hit TV talent show American Idol is reportedly in trouble after three executive producers walked out on the third season of the programme.

Sources at American showbiz news show EXTRA claim the walkout took place when the unnamed producers' proposed changes to the format of the show were ignored by TV bosses at Fox.

Officials at the show's production company, FREMANTLEMEDIA NORTH AMERICA, have denied any behind-the-scenes turmoil and insist the show will return in January (05), as planned.

But sources at American Idol suspect the present turmoil at Fox could pave the way for another hit talent show - THE X-FACTOR, which has been created by Idol judge Simon Cowell, and is already a hit in his native Britain.
