Former American Idol reject Jennifer Hudson is in talks to return to the show as a judge.

The singer, who went on to win an Oscar after she was dumped from the reality series in 2004, is seriously thinking about coming back to mentor wannabes on the upcoming 13th season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Insiders claim no one from the season 12 panel will be back and that Idol bosses are looking to revamp the judging line-up to boost falling ratings.

Kelly Clarkson, who won the first series of the talent show, has been linked to a judging spot on Idol, but her aides insist the Since U Been Gone hitmaker will not be back.

Fellow alum Adam Lambert has shown a little interest, but it looks as if Hudson will become the first former Idol to sign on as a judge.

Earlier this month (May13), Randy Jackson announced he was leaving the show after 12 seasons. Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban joined him on the panel for the most recent series.
