On last night's episode of American Idol, one of the contestants, Symone Black, collapsed at the end of her audition, whilst talking to the judges. Her tumble saw her fall off the stage and hit her head and the credits began to roll to the sound of the show's producer Nigel Lythgoe calling for a medic. There was no announcement to confirm what had happened to the 16 year-old talent show hopeful.
It looked as though the Fox network were going to make fans wait until tonight's episode for news of whether or not the teen made a recovery but ahead of the screening, Entertainment Weekly contacted a Fox spokesperson who confirmed that Symone Black has made a full recovery and is continuing with her Hollywood Week auditions. She reportedly required treatment for dehydration from the on-set medics.
The collapse came after Symone performed her version of Otis Redding's 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay'. Judges Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez seemed impressed with her vocals and were seen nodding with approval whilst she sang. Then, after Randy Jackson asked her why she chose the song, she replied that she wanted to appeal to an older audience. She began to stumble and it looked as though her legs gave way underneath her. Though Symone's collapse was perhaps the most dramatic moment of last night's episode, it was also notable as being the episode in which they said goodbye to Jim Carrey's daughter Jane Carrey, who didn't quite make the grade.
