Amy Adams collects ''carved wooden birds''.

The 40-year-old actress loves ''kitsch'' things and has a special penchant for souvenir statues of her favourite feathered friends.

Discussing her role as American artist Margaret Keane - whose husband Walter Keane claimed credit for her work - in new biopic 'Big Eyes', she said: ''It must have been so confusing and strange to have your work celebrated and torn down at the same time but also to get neither credit nor blame, to not be able to speak up for your work in any way. I know it was hurtful when people attacked the work. I know kitsch, by definition, isn't considered art, but I have a lot of things in my life that would be called kitsch and I love them all.

''I have lots of carved wooden birds that you get at souvenir shops, stuff like that.''

Amy got to meet with Margaret on several occasions to research her role and was thrilled when the artist gave her one of her paintings - famous for her use of over-sized, doe eyes on her subjects - to keep.

In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, she revealed: ''Margaret gifted me one of her paintings, which was just beyond generous.''

Amy's love of kitsch extends to her entertainment choices, as she spent New Year's Eve (31.12.14) singing karaoke with her fiancée, artist Darren Le Gallo, and their four-year-old daughter Aviana.

Revealing how she saw in 2015, the 'American Hustle' star said: ''I was at home with my family. We rented a karaoke machine. I'm kind of a music nerd. My favourite this time was something my daughter brought to it. She can be quite shy about performing but she sang Katy Perry's 'Roar'. That was fun to watch.''
