Amy Winehouse's coroner's verdict may be ruled illegal after the validity of the coroner who undertook the inquest was brought into question. It turns out that SUZANNE GREENAWAY was appointed to the role of assistant deputy coroner by her husband, resigning in November after it was alleged that she didn't meet the rules that governed the appointment of her role. By then of course she'd already passed a judgement of misadventure on the case of Winehouse, alleging that there were no illegal drugs in her system when she passed away last summer in her London home.

The UK's Sun newspaper reports that she'd not fulfilled the rule that stated she had to have been in the Law Society as a solicitor for five years, joining only two-and-a-half years ago. Additionally, Greenaway qualified as a nurse in her native Australia and worked as a lawyer there, something else that contravenes the laws that state she must've been a "qualified medical practitioner" in the UK for five years. Having presided over 30 coroner's inquests, it now means that technically each one of those could be deemed illegal, an embarrassment for her and husband DR ANDREW SCOTT REID, who was also probed for his conduct in the matter.

A statement from Reid read, In November it became apparent I'd made an error in the appointment process. While I am confident that all of the inquests handled were done so correctly, I apologise if this matter causes distress." A new inquest would be a bitter blow for Winehouse's father Mitch Winehouse, who'd been elated to discover that there were no illegal toxins in his daughter's body; he'll be far from willing to drag up the passing again.
