In a confusing series of reveals, Andre 3000, who is currently filming as Jimi Hendrix in a biopic about the guitarist's life, will be playing covers including those by The Beatles, Muddy Waters and Elvis Presley, but won't actually be performing any Hendrix-penned songs in the film, after studio bosses failed to approach the Hendrix estate to request permission to use them.
"This is the story of Jimi being discovered as a backup musician and how he went to London and became Jimi Hendrix," said the producer Sean MCKittrick to Rolling Stone, adding that the film would be focusing on early stories about the late star such as when he jammed with Cream and met Eric Clapton. A real life story, he claimed "would be like making a movie about Kurt Cobain - we all know how that story ends."
The concert was hosted by the Emmy award-winning actor Michael Chiklis, star of The Shield. It's the second time that he has carried out the honor of hosting the Independence Day celebrations in Boston, which were televised by CBS.
