Dannielynn Birkhead, the five-year-old daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith, lit up the Kentucky Derby over the weekend. She and her father Larry Birkhead took part in the Derby fun on Saturday (May 12, 2012), with Dannielynn wearing a flowery hat and looking a picture of happiness, reports USA Today.

Dannielynn is named after her half-brother Daniel, who died from a lethal concoction of drugs after collapsing in his mother's hospital room three days after Dannielynn's birth. Anna Nicole was just 39 when she was found dead in her hotel room back in 2007. Nevertheless, the little girl and her father carried on the family's Derby tradition and were joined by a whole host of celebrities include Erin Andrews, CINDY LAUPER, Ashton Kutcher and Mary J Blige, who sang the national anthem. Following a drawn out legal battle, Larry Birkhead - a former boyfriend of Anna's - was named the father of Dannielynn after DNA results said to be 99.99% certain were returned.

Smith was found unresponsive in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on February 8, 2007. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Memorial Regional Hospital, with the Dr Joshua Perper later concluding that she had died of "a combined drug intoxication", though no illegal substances were found in her system at the time.
