AnnaSophia Robb has been cast as the iconic Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City spin-off The Carrie Diaries (Sarah Jessica Parker plays the role in the original series). The 18 year-old actress will play Carrie in the new show and according to her Twitter announcement, the rest of the world found out about it before she did. "So excited for carriediaries!" the young actress wrote. "It was online before I even knew hahahaha oh technology."
The Carrie Diaries will be based on Candice Bushnell's novel of the same name; itself a prequel to the Sex and the City book. Annasophia has previously been seen in last year's Soul Surfer, alongside Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid. She was playing the role of a shark attack victim who finds the courage to return to the ocean. ABC News reported on the cast announcement, adding that the news HBO show will be aiming for a younger demographic than its predecessor. It will follow Carrie Bradshaw as a teenager in Manhattan.
