The makers of a new 'Sex and the City' prequel pilot have cast the part of a young Carrie Bradshaw, choosing 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' actress AnnaSophia Robb to play the fashionista. Josh Schwartz had previously spoken of his excitement at casting the important role, and it seems Annasophia fended off stiff competition from hundreds of potential actresses, according to E! Online.
A studio representative confirms the young actress, who has also appeared in 'Race to Witch Mountain', will play the role of Carrie Bradshaw, famously portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker in the original television series and subsequent movies. The casting call had described Bradshaw as a "quirky, charming, witty 16 year old" who unfortunately has "a complete lack of knowledge about love, sex and relationships". As would be expected, the young Carrie also has a sense of fashion while growing up in Manhattan. It seems Annasophia has potentially landed one of the biggest television roles of the year, and Dianna Agron and Blake Lively were reportedly interested in the role before timing issues and other commitments became stumbling blocks.
The show, whose pilot episode had been commissioned by The CW network, could hit screens later this year. CW are set to make a decision on whether to go ahead with a full series in May.
