Anne Hathaway has named her new dog after her favourite movie character.

The 'Les Miserables' actress and her husband Adam Schulman - who already have a chocolate labrador named Esmeralda - took on the care of mixed breed pooch Edward last month and have named their new pet after a 'Star Wars' icon.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: ''Their new dog is named Kenobi, as in Obi Wan-Kenobi from 'Star Wars'. ''

It was previously revealed that the couple's new dog is a ''little gentleman'' who was expected to make a perfect companion for Esmeralda.

Teri Austin, president of The Amanda Foundation, the Beverly Hills rescue centre where they got the new pooch, said: ''They were looking for a companion for Esmeralda.

''He makes very good eye contact with you. I think he's going to train very nicely, he's an intelligent little dog.

''He was such a little gentleman. He's a calm, sweet puppy. Which is why he's going to be a good companion for Esmeralda.''

Teri went on to praise the 31-year-old beauty for her love of dogs.

She added: ''''Some people have an intuition for dogs, and she's one of them. She's a dog person.''
