SIR Anthony Hopkins will never grace the theatre stage, because he's too lazy and couldn't keep a straight face.

Unlike many of his British acting peers, Hopkins has never harboured any desire to prove his acting prowess on the stage.

He says, "Some people like (DAME) Judi Dench, (SIR) Ian McKellen and (SIR) Derek Jacobi, have tremendous stamina; I admire them for what they do.

"But the thing about the theatre is you've got to take it seriously all the time. I can't.

"I can't do it. It makes me laugh."
