Anthony Hopkins - Sir Anthony Hopkins In Awe At World Premiere Of His Waltz
Sir Anthony Hopkins witnessed "a dream come true" on Saturday (02Jul11) when noted classical violinist Andre Rieu performed a waltz composed by the Oscar winner for the very first time.
The Silence of the Lambs star has been writing music for years and penned the piece And The Waltz Goes On with the Dutch musician in mind, hoping he would bring the composition to life.
Hopkins flew to Vienna, Austria - the home of the waltz - last week (begs27Jul11) to attend the world premiere of his piece and he was in awe at the performance.
He says, "It's a dream come true for me that Andre performed it with his orchestra. I've been a great admirer of Andre Rieu for several years. He's a great musician. My wife and I had the same dream of meeting him one day, so I've sent him some music that I wrote.
"(I was) totally knocked out (by the result). It's even more than I expected."
During the concert, Rieu was presented with the Grand Gold Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria, in recognition of his efforts to promote Viennese music across the world.
Hopkins is set to make his British debut as a composer when he unveils a new tune at a City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra concert in Cardiff, Wales, later this month (Jul11).
