Ashley Greene is trying to keep busy after a ''rough few months''.

The 'Twilight Saga' actress was left heartbroken after her beloved dog, Marlo, died during a fire that also destroyed her apartment in March but says the incident inspired her to do more charity work.

The 26-year-old brunette star told People.com: ''Obviously, I've had a rough few months, but I'm doing okay.

''I'm exploring new opportunities, and I try to participate in charity events as much as possible.

''It's very important to me to focus on others, not just myself. You look at children with cancer and you think, 'Wow, it really puts my own problems into perspective.' Not to say that what we all go through isn't important, but there are people who have much greater problems that they deal with every day.''

It was previously reported the actress, her brother and an unidentified boyfriend were asleep in her Los Angeles condo and quickly fled before realising her dogs were still inside.

Meanwhile, Ashley claims she has no fear of only being offered roles in vampire films after starring in the smash hit franchise.

She explained: ''If I've been getting vampire offers, my management hasn't been sending them to me.

''We agreed that, unless a vampire role is spectacular, I just can't do it.''

But she is still in touch with a few of her former castmates, including newly single Kellan Lutz.

She said: ''I still try to keep up with everyone, but we don't see each other as much as we'd like to. And then there's always Skype! I chatted with Kellan Lutz the other day and he was in Bulgaria!''
