Pop star Avril Lavigne has thwarted an ex-boyfriend's get-rich-quick scheme by blocking the internet sale of her old loveletters.

Ex-boyfriend BLAKE THOMPSON put the letters Avril wrote him on auction site eBAY, offering them at a starting bid of $500 (GBP313).

Thompson claimed the love letters went on "to inspire Avril to what she has become today".

eBay bosses have been forced to pull the letters from sale after a complaint that any auctioning of them violated Lavigne's intellectual property rights.
