Avril Lavigne says her fashion tastes have grown more sophisticated over time.

The 'What The Hell' singer - who launched her debut clothing range, Abbey Dawn, last year - used to be famed for her rock chick look but has now started to wear dresses and heels as her style has matured over the years.

The 26-year-old star said: "When I was younger, I dressed skater and had that whole thing going on. But as I grew up, I eventually started wearing heels and dresses. Over time, fashion choices change. Now that I'm older and have a fashion line, I'm more into fashion.

"I like to dress with rock 'n' roll elements and be casual. I like jeans with rips and skulls, but now I wear more flattering pieces. I would never have worn heels or tight trousers before, or dresses. Today, though, I enjoy it. I've grown up."

Following the success of her clothing line, Avril revealed she designs her female clothes for herself, and her men's clothes for her brother.

Avril said: "The inspiration for my line comes from my personal style. I'm designing the things I want. I'm not a huge fan of floral. I like stripes and plaid and polka dots and all-over prints of skulls.

"I'm designing it for me, really. I learned a lot about myself with designing. The stuff I was really excited about for Kohl's did well.

"It gave me the confidence. You don't have to be perfect. It's about having fun. It's a lot of fun. It's another way to be creative. It's all the same. It comes from me."
