U.S. President Barack Obama has been offered a cameo in hit online political drama House Of Cards.

On Tuesday (17Dec13), bosses from some of the biggest tech companies in the world including Google, Apple and Facebook gathered in Washington, D.C. to meet with the American leader to discuss the impact of the U.S. government's security surveillance programmes.

But before they got down to business, President Obama took the opportunity to ask Reed Hastings, boss of streaming website Netflix, about his company's Emmy-winning political series, starring Kevin Spacey as a scheming politician.

He said, "I'm just wondering if Reed brought advanced copies of House of Cards?"

Hastings quickly jumped at the chance to invite the leader on the series, quipping, "You willing to do a little cameo?"

Refusing to take him up on the offer, Obama joked about the efficiency of Spacey's conniving character, adding, "I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient. It's true. I was looking at Kevin Spacey and I was like, 'Wow. This guy's getting a lot of stuff done.'"

House of Cards' second series hits the site on 14 February (14).
