Debbie Harry had "doubts and suspicions" when her ex-boyfriend Chris Stein got married.

The Blondie frontwoman - who dated her bandmate for 15 years until 1997 - was "jealous" when her former flame tied the knot with actress Barbara Sicuranza in 1999, but accepts she was "probably not right" to settle down and have a family.

She said: "I did not marry and was probably not right for motherhood. I was jealous at the beginning when Chris married and had doubts and suspicions.

"I thought, 'Who is this woman? Is she good enough for him?' But she is wonderful, they have two great children and I'm godmother to both."

The 66-year-old singer has also admitted Madonna's rise to success was one of the "lowest points" of her career, as industry commentators were saying the 'Like A Prayer' hitmaker was stepping into her shoes.

Debbie added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: "At one of my lowest points, Madonna started her career and everyone said she stepped into my shoes. I was kind of shocked and not very happy in the long run.

"But she has been complimentary over the years. That compensates."
