Superstar singer Barbra Streisand is coming out of retirement to record a new album - featuring songs from her favourite movies.

One of the songs will be the classic Charlie Chaplin composition smile from his film MODERN TIMES which, until now, Judy Garland held the patent on.

The song has special meaning for Barbra as she recorded it only two days after she lost her beloved dog Sammy, who succumbed to cancer.

Barbra found the dog at a San Fernando Valley, California, pet shop in 1994 - two days before the devastating Northridge earthquake. The quake demolished the store and caused a great deal of damage to Barbra's own house and, for a little while, she thought she'd lost Sammy.
