THE Beatles hit A DAY IN THE LIFE has been named the Best British Song of all time, by a magazine poll.

Music experts, quizzed by Q Magazine, chose the track over THE KINKS' WATERLOO SUNSET, and OASIS' WONDERWALL - which occupied second and third places respectively.

They hailed A Day In The Life, "The ultimate sonic rendition of what it means to be British."

John Lennon described the 1967 song, after its release as "a sound building up from nothing to the end of the world".
