Japanese Hotel Celebrates Beatles Anniversary
THE Beatles' one and only visit to Japan is being commemorated by the hotel the Fab Four stayed in 40 years ago (66). The DAY TRIPPER hitmakers - Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the late John Lennon and George Harrison - checked in at the Tokyo Hilton during their 1966 visit. And the establishment, now known as the Capitol Tokyu Hotel, is offering visitors the chance to see luxury suite used by the era-defining group. The hotel's MICHAEL MIYAUCHI says, "We have done our best to restore the presidential suite to how it looked when The Beatles stayed. "We expected to see mainly 50 and 60-year-olds but all generations have been turning up." Elsewhere in Japan, The Beatles cover bands are in competition to win the accolade of sounding most like their heroes, and a photography exhibition is underway.
