Rapper Kanye West wants Beck to hand his coveted Grammy Award to Beyonce to show he respects her "artistry".

The Stronger hitmaker famously stormed the stage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards as Taylor Swift accepted the Best Female Video accolade and told the audience Beyonce should have won.

At Sunday night's (08Feb15) Grammys ceremony in Los Angeles, he again showed his backing for the former Destiny's Child singer by jokingly recreating the stunt and then urging Beck to hand Beyonce his Album of the Year honour.

West was seen onstage while Beck accepted the award, but in a post-ceremony interview with E!, the rapper said, "I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more and Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyonce. Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration.

"I'm not gonna do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That's the reason why I didn't say anything tonight, but you all know what it meant when 'Ye (I) walked out on that stage!"

Despite the controversial comments, Beck responded graciously, saying, "I was just so excited he was coming up (on stage). He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right? I thought (Beyonce) was going to win. Come on, she's Beyonce!"
