Sir Ben Kingsley is going back in time to star in a new Tv miniseries about Ancient Egyptian pharaoh King Tutankhamun.

The Oscar-winning Gandhi star will play grand vizier Ay in the six-part Tut series, which is scheduled start filming in Morocco and Canada this autumn (14), ahead of a 2015 premiere on U.S. network Spike Tv.

Network executive Sharon Levy says, "Tut is the biggest and most ambitious project in Spike's history. Who better to lead the cast than one of the greatest actors of our generation - Ben Kingsley.

"The character he plays, Ay, is the true power behind the Tutankhamun throne. We are so fortunate to have an actor of Ben Kingsley's stature bring this character to life."

Further casting details for Tut have yet to be revealed.

The British actor is no stranger to Ancient Egyptian roles - he has been cast as a pharaoh in the upcoming Night At the Museum sequel, Secret of the Tomb. Kingsley also portrayed Egyptian prince-turned-prophet Moses and Potiphar in 1995 Tv movies.
