Ryan Murphy publicly reached out to Bette Midler at a New York awards ceremony on Monday (15Oct12) to offer her a role on Glee.
The director/producer was honoured for his philanthropy at the God's Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards, and he used his speech to appeal to the icon to sign up for the hit show.
In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "I just asked the incredible Bette Midler to be on Glee in front of 1,000 people. I hope she says yes!"
He later added, "Bette said yes! Amazing. I am plotting... who should she play?"
Midler also took to her page on the microblogging site to hint she would be willing to play the grandmother of Lea Michele's character Rachel Berry.
In a series of posts, she writes, "So many fantastic people tonight... Wonderful speeches. Big thanks to everyone who kept me from falling off those heels!! And from the stage, Ryan Murphy invited me to guest on Glee! I should get out more!! Ok... I have one vote for Rachel's grandmother... hmmmm. I'm thinking, I'm thinking!!"
Midler will be in good company if she goes through with her promise - previous Glee guest stars include Olivia Newton-John, Josh Groban, Jeff Goldblum, Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow.
