Jay Z ended his headline set at the 2014 Global Citizen festival with a bang by bringing his wife Beyonce onstage for the encore on Saturday night (27Sep14).

The Crazy in Love hitmaker appeared onstage to perform Holy Grail and Forever Young with her husband, who headlined the free concert in New York's Central Park alongside No Doubt on Saturday.

Beyonce was not the only surprise appearance - Sting joined No Doubt during their set to sing his 1979 The Police hit Message in a Bottle, while Alicia Keys performed her anthem for peace We Are Here. The heavily pregnant singer sat at a piano while one Israeli and one Palestinian musician played their instruments.

She thanked them on Instagram.com after the show, writing, "I went to Israel and Palestine. I talked to many people on both sides and I know that most everyone I spoke to there wants peace... Let's do everything we can to encourage a peaceful solution."

Carrie Underwood, The Roots, DJ Tiesto and fun. also performed sets at the third annual festival, which raises awareness about extreme poverty. Hugh Jackman served as host while Ryan Reynolds, Glee star Dianna Agron, Zachary Quinto and several humanitarians and world leaders presented powerful messages between the musical acts.
