Rocker Billy Corgan has announced his intention to reunite THE SMASHING PUMPKINS for the first time since they split in 2000.

Corgan, who released his first solo album THEFUTUREEMBRACE in the US today (21JUN05), took out a full-page advertisement in this morning's CHICAGO TRIBUNE newspaper in which he speaks of his wish to regroup with bandmates JAMES IHA, D'ARCY WRETZKY and Jimmy Chamberlain.

Titled 'A Message To Chicago From Billy Corgan', the singer thanks his hometown for inspiring him as a musician over the last 17 years.

But it is his plans to reunite The Smashing Pumpkins which are attracting the most interest.

Since leaving the group Corgan led Zwan before becoming a solo artist - he has previously never mentioned a desire to reform.

In the ad, Corgan writes: "I'd like to take this moment to address all that is going on in my musical life, from the new album and the current tour, to the future of The Smashing Pumpkins...

"Many have assumed that the decisions that I have made over the last few years have been to try and get away from something... I found that my heart is in Chicago, and that my heart is in The Smashing Pumpkins.

"For a year now I have walked around with a secret, a secret I chose to keep. But now... I have made plans to renew and revive The Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams.

"TheFutureEmbrace represents a new beginning, not an ending. It picks up the thread of the as-yet-untitled work and charter of The Smashing Pumpkins."
