Rocker Billy Corgan's desire to reform the Smashing Pumpkins has come a step closer to reality - drummer Jimmy Chamberlain is also keen to resurrect the band.

Corgan took out a full-page advertisement in last Tuesday's Chicago TRIBUNE newspaper expressing his wish to regroup with bandmates James IHA, D'ARCY WRETZKY and Chamberlain.

Chamberlain, who appears on Corgan's new solo album THEFUTUREEMBRACE, tells the Chicago Tribune, "All I can say is that the Smashing Pumpkins are Billy, JAMES (IHA), myself and D'ARCY (WRETZKY).

"In an ideal world, that's what it will end up being. The hope is that everybody will come to the table, but I can only speak for myself in saying that I'm in, and I'm excited."

Camberlain admits he has had no contact with bassist Wretzky since she quit the band in 1999 - but he regularly exchanges emails with guitarist Iha.

He adds, "It's still all very new, and I don't know if anybody really knows what's going on. We really haven't sat down at the table and figured out the nuts and bolts."

The Smashing Pumpkins split in 2000 as one of the biggest rock bands in world.
