LATEST: SIR Bob Geldof has announced the Live 8 charity concerts will consist of eight star-studded gigs around the world - crushing speculation Edinburgh, Scotland and Washington DC will host the huge events.

At a press conference in London today (31MAY05), the former Boomtown Rat confirmed a-list artists will perform in Berlin, Germany; Paris, France; Philadelphia, US; Rome, Italy and the British capital on 2 July (05).

Coldplay, Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney, REM and U2 will perform in London's Hyde Park; Will Smith, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Wonder and SEAN 'P DIDDY' COMBS on Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway; Lauryn Hill and former BEACH BOY Brian Wilson at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate; YOUSSOU N'DOUR, YANNICK NOAH and Placebo under Paris' Eiffel Tower and Duran Duran at Rome's Circus Maximus.

Organisers hope to organise three further concerts in Japan, Canada and Russia - the three remaining countries in the G8.

The gigs aim to raise awareness of world poverty in developing countries, days before the G8 Summit in Scotland (06JUL05).
