Rock 'n' roller Bobby Vinton is back in America's top 10 for the first time in more than 30 years.

The BLUE VELVET singer's 1964 hit MR LONELY has been sampled and speeded up by singer Akon, who has turned the track into a hit all over again on his popular new song LONELY.

Vinton admits he was reluctant to OK the tune when he first heard it: "I said, 'Gee, I don't know.' But my wife and daughter started to scream, 'What a hit record this is.'

"Akon wanted me to do the video but I couldn't. I was playing the Potawatomi (corr) Casino in Milwaukee.

Vinton isn't the only old-timer tasting success, crooner Tony Christie is back at the top of the UK singles and albums charts after a rebirth of his career.
