Crusading Irish rocker Bono journeyed to Washington DC today (19OCT05) to lunch with US President George W Bush.

The U2 frontman, 45, met Bush to continue discussions they had started at the G8 Summit in Gleneagles, Scotland earlier this year (JUL05), where the US leader and a host of other world premiers decided to alleviate debt for several developing nations.

White House president secretary SCOTT McCLELLAN explains, "They had a very good discussion about some of our common priorities.

"Both share a deep commitment to combatting AIDS, preventing malaria and expanding trade to lift people out of poverty."
