Actor Brad Pitt was allegedly punched in the face by notorious red carpet prankster Vitalii Sediuk at the Los Angeles premiere of Maleficent on Wednesday (28May14).

Pitt attended the event with the movie's star, his fiancee Angelina Jolie, and was signing autographs outside El Capitan theatre when the Ukrainian journalist reportedly jumped over the barriers and rushed at the actor, allegedly striking him in the face.

The 25-year-old troublemaker was tackled by security guards and led away. He was later arrested by police, who charged him with misdemeanour battery and kept him in custody on Wednesday night on $20,000 (£12,500) bail.

Jolie was reportedly on another section of the red carpet talking to fans at the time of the incident.

Los Angeles Police Department (Lapd) spokesman Gus Villanueva confirmed Pitt was not badly injured in the alleged attack, while a spokesperson for Disney, the film studio behind Maleficent, tells Variety.com, "This was an unfortunate and inappropriate incident that is being investigated by the Lapd."

Sediuk previously made headlines when he was slapped by Will Smith after trying to kiss the actor, and earlier this month (May14), he was arrested at Cannes Film Festival in France after trying to crawl under America Ferrera's dress.
