Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt is so worried about the reaction to his upcoming epic Troy that he has appealed to the Greek gods for help.

The Fight Club hunk is proud to be part of the epic production and wants to ensure it is perfect but has been left disheartened by some bad luck which has struck the set.

And director Wolfgang Petersen is convinced that Pitt's role as hero ACHILLES could be a career defining performance.

He says, "There is a lot of expectation of Brad. I think it's the biggest and most important part of his life."

Sources on the production - which has been filmed in Morocco say that Pitt - who is married to FRIENDS star JENNIFER ANISTON - was devastated when one of the stuntman was killed onset and immediately appealed to a higher power for help.

The source says, "The film means so much to Brad - he talks like it is his baby. I think he was at his wits' end with all the mishaps and then his pal being killed during one particularly ambitious stunt.

"We all went in to this little church and said prayers, then made a circle outside asking for the blessing of the Greek gods. We asked for their forgiveness if we had offended them in any way."
