David Beckham has been named the ultimate Valentine's Day (14.02.14) date.

The retired soccer star topped a new poll from toptable to find British women's dream dinner companion on the most romantic day of the year, scoring 18 per cent of the vote.

Bradley Cooper (14%), Ryan Gosling (13%) and Tom Hardy (8%) were also in the running to be crowned the celebrity most likely to set women's hearts aflutter on February 14.

Meanwhile, 22 percent of men would like to be wined and dined by 'This Morning' presenter Holly Willoughby, with her girl-next-door charms proving more popular than runners up Kelly Brook, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lawrence.

It also appears looks aren't everything, since 64 per cent of survey respondents would choose conversation over good looks in their dream date.

Whilst a romantic rendez-vous with hunky father-of-four David is unlikely, those looking for love can book a table for the special day thanks to the toptable app, which has rounded up restaurants offering specials for the day and weekend.

The toptable Valentine's survey of 2,000 adults was carried out by OnePoll between 3 February and 5 February 2014.
