Brett Ratner - Brett Ratner To Be Honoured With Glaad Award
Moviemaker Brett Ratner is to be honoured with a special award from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (Glaad) group for his work in promoting equality.
The director has created a series of public service announcements (Psas), which feature stars including Charlie Sheen and Jackie Chan, for the organisation, and he has now been unveiled as the recipient of the group's Ally Award.
In a statement, Ratner writes, "I have long been a supporter of equal rights for everyone. I have always been an admirer of Glaad. They do meaningful and effective work in the fight to secure equality for everyone and I am very humbled that they are honouring me with this Ally Award."
Glaad President Herndon Graddick adds, "Brett Ratner's dedication and leadership will inspire countless to speak out in support of Lgbt (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) friends, family, neighbours and children. From high school jocks to faith leaders, those who follow Brett's lead are admired and heralded, while anti-Lgbt bullies are increasingly ridiculed and marginalised."
Ratner will receive the accolade at the Glaad Media Awards in New York City on 16 March (13).
The honour marks a turnaround for Ratner - he pulled out of co-producing the 2012 Academy Awards following a homophobic slur scandal and subsequently vowed to make amends over the incident.
