Britney Spears' friends are worried she can't handle a residency in Las Vegas.

The 'Scream & Shout' singer is said to be on the brink of signing a $100 million deal to perform in the US gambling capital, but friends aren't sure she will cope after splitting from her fiance Jason Trawick and parting ways with TV show 'The X Factor', on which she was a judge, last week.

A source told website MailOnline: ''I'm not sure just how good an idea Vegas is for Britney right now. If she can't handle 'The X Factor' - how will she be able to perform five days a week in Vegas?

''She's a homebody, she loves her sons and has her daily routine. At this time, she may need to concentrate on her health and happiness - not rebuilding her career.''

The source also went on to detail how involved Jason - who has hardly been pictured without Britney, 31, by his side in the last year - was in their relationship and how he guided her through the stressful filming of 'The X Factor'.

They said: ''At auditions, Jason would calmly escort Britney by the hand back and forth to her seat during breaks. He was there for her.''

Another source said she seemed quite lost if Jason, 41, wasn't with her, recalling a party at Soho House in Los Angeles last September where Britney was a guest.

The source said: ''Britney stood in a corner and hid. She didn't speak to anyone - you wouldn't even have realised she was there. She's a shy, shy girl.''

Britney and Jason - who was also her manager, but has now resigned - had been staying in a Los Angeles hotel during filming of 'The X Factor' but she is now thought to have gone back to her home in Calabasas, California with her children Sean Preston, seven, and Jayden James, six, from a previous relationship.

Jason has also resigned as Britney's co-conservator, leaving her father, Jamie, as the sole administrator of her finances.
