Britney Spears' 'Glee' Appearance Blasted
Britney Spears has been criticised as an unsuitable role model after her appearance on TV show 'Glee'.
Britney Spears' 'Glee' episode has been slammed by a parents group.
The 'Toxic' hitmaker played herself in a special episode of the musical Drama - which aired in the US last month but the Parents Television Council criticised the programme and called it the 'Worst Show Of The Week'.
A message from the group said: "'Glee' earned its highest ratings ever with this Britney Spears tribute, drawing 13.3 million viewers. A scary thought considering that the mostly young teen/tween audience basically witnessed an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation and school-sanctioned burlesque."
The group also alluded to the star's past troubles - including a public breakdown and custody battle for her two sons Sean Preston, five, and four-year-old Jayden James - in their statement.
They said: "But perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled pop star into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem. Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns, and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model."
However, regular cast members have admitted they were thrilled to have the pop star on board for the show because they were such big fans of her music.
Naya Rivera - who portrays Santana - revealed: "I love Britney Spears. I mean, who doesn't? We all grew up with her. The first music purchase I ever made was ' Baby One More Time' on cassette. It was, like, Britney Spears is going to be in my mitts, what do I do? And I was like, 'Hi Britney!' And then she was like, 'Hey!' She was awesome and beautiful. She was magical."
