An ambitious belly dance routine left Katherine Jenkins in tears during Monday's Dancing With The Stars (May 14, 2012). The beguiling and sultry routine ended badly when the Welsh mezzo-soprano appeared to strain her back, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

A teary Jenkins - who has high hopes of winning this year's competition - received medical attention after the show. She had attempted a deep bend backwards before writhing in pain, marring another otherwise faultless performance. Despite the injury, judge Carrie Ann Inaba praised the routine, saying, "It was like you hung out with Beyonce over the weekend. so bummed about the end". The mistake cruelly landed Jenkins at the bottom of the leaderboard, but only three points separated her from the top scoring Maria Menounos, who has seemingly come from nowhere to emerge as the new frontrunner for the Mirror Ball trophy. William Levy and DONALD DRIVER also received solid scores in the semi-final, with fans struggling to pick a winner for next week's final. Last year's contestant Kirstie Alley acknowledged the high standard, telling Twitter followers, "Thank God these people weren't in DWTS in MY season!!!! I think I would have come in a Close 9th...LMFAO ...amazing!!". Co-host Brooke Burke echoed the comments while on-air, saying, "This is probably the strongest group of semi-finalists we've ever seen on the show".

One contestant will unfortunately fall at the final hurdle and be eliminated during Tuesday's results show.
