Late hip-hop producer J Dilla is to be remembered in his native Detroit, Michigan with a star-studded tribute concert featuring Busta Rhymes.
Friday (10Feb12) will be deemed Dilla Day Detroit in honour of the star, who died in 2006 aged 32 after being hospitalised for pneumonia.
Rapper Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest star Phife and Jay Electronica are among the acts who have signed up to perform at a special show at The Fillmore, which will help raise money for charity.
Dilla's mother Maureen Yancey says, "It's going to be very special to have people right here in Detroit see his name up in lights and embrace his great legacy. It's very special that we're doing it right here in his hometown. He loved his city."
A portion of proceeds from the gig will be donated to the J Dilla Foundation and will also help fund the upcoming release of Rebirth of Detroit, an album of unreleased J Dilla material.
