Carrie Underwood, the former American Idol contestant who recently won the 'Entertainer of the Year' honour at the Academy of Country Music Awards, is set to star in her debut movie 'Soul Surfer' and the official trailer has been released today (13th January 2011), reports MTV News.
The movie is based on the true story of BETHANY HAMILTON whose surfing ambitions were dashed after she was the victim of a shark attack. Hamilton, played by Anna Sophia Robb in the movie, lost her left arm but vowed to continue in her quest to become a world renowned surfer. The film focuses on Hamilton's difficult recovery, and 27-year-old Underwood plays a motivating church youth leader who attempts to put the young surfer's ambitions back on track. The trailer, which contains no dialogue, features Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid who plays Bethany's father TOM HAMILTON and actress Helen Hunt. MTV described the movie as being "Classic surfer-chick movie Blue Crush meets Britney Spears' 'innocent southern girl' debut in "Crossroads".
The film is directed by Sean McNamara and is scheduled to hit cinemas on 15th April 2011.
