Carrie Underwood had to keep up with news of the storms that ravaged parts of her home state Oklahoma last month (May13) on Twitter.com and from her mum because she couldn't access Tv reports.
The country singer, who will dedicate her performance at the CMT Awards on Wednesday night (05Jun13) to the victims of the tornadoes, reveals she was stranded in northern Canada when news of the storm originally came out.
She tells U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, "We didn't have satellite, so I'm reading my Twitter trying to figure out what the heck is happening, talking to my mum.
"It was crazy trying to keep up just reading headlines."
Upon her return to the U.S., Underwood made a $1 million (£645,000) donation to the Red Cross from her tour proceeds, and says, "I'm really glad we were able to donate to the Red Cross and do this (dedication) for the CMT Awards. I think we can all keep putting our heads together and keep making a difference and keep helping people."
